Internet searching...oh where do I begin.. :O) I am a Googeler, pretty much everything I knew prior to going back to school I had learned from Google. To this day I use Google on a daily basis. Whether it is to look up phone numbers, the name of a song I can't get out of my head or even answers to essential life questions like "how do turtles mate"? A random question that a friend and I had debated over for entirely way to long. How would we have made it though life had we not known how turtles do "the deed"? Thanks to Google we don't have to worry about that.
When I was a kid in elementary school they had us use a search engine called Ask Jeeves. I wonder if anybody still uses that? From what I remember you could type in a whole question and Jeeves would answer it for you. It was pretty cool having a butler answering questions. However, at the time you had to actually be at a computer to get online (gasp). I love technology these days, everything is so much easier ask Google.

social media
Well hello again! So this mornings topic is social media. Such as this right here my blog :O)
A long time ago while my world was completely different than they way it is now, I started a blog. I titled it It's My Life Strange but true...from what I remember I only made a couple entries in it. I have loved to write since I was little, getting my crazy thoughts and weird emotions out on paper always seemed the best solution. It was my time to sit and make things all about me. Conceded much? lol
When you are a mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend etc. It's so easy to get wrapped up in everyone else, never focusing on ourselves. Writing was always something I could say I did for me. Then came blogging! I could tell everyone anything I wanted.I could be anonymous or tell the world who I was. Talk about my family and events of that week, funny thing that happened that day, or just out right complain. At the time it felt like someone out there would actually be listening to what I had to say in a time when I could barely even hear my own voice.
Now days everyone hears my voice because well stuff happened, life changed me and now I have the confidence to not only write but actually talk to people whether they want to hear it or not. I still don't have much time for myself but it's not such a bad thing anymore. Instead of being stuck inside my own head, thoughts bouncing everywhere all of the time. I can go about my day get the things done that are needed and be happy when I lay my head down at night!Of course With a little help from my HP that is...
Blogs are such a wonderful tool. They help us feel connected, let us boast about what we have been up to or cry to anybody that will read. This blog happens to be for an assignment but I might just start blogging where I left off!

Internet Safety
Internet safety is a topic I regularly discuss with my son. He is an avid computer user just like his mom and his safety online is my main concern. However, after a lesson in my computer class at Onondaga Community College I am wondering how safe I really am while online and Do I practice what I preach?
Unfortunately the answer is a no. While I do not personally open e-mails from people I do not know, I always have the preview pane open to see what the email says. I have found out that this is giving people the opportunity to see that my e-mail address is indeed active, and could possibly result in more spam or even someone trying to hack my e-mail! I think the craziest spam letter I have received many times is one claiming that I had a long lost relative in some random country. He passed away and amazingly I am the beneficiary of his estate. Lucky me! If only money could come so easily. As you can probably tell by having the preview pane open I was able to read it and the result is receiving them almost every month.
Another thing I do that's not good is shop online while I'm not at home. This is giving people the opportunity to steal my card and bank information. Actually, I had no clue that people could even do that. I shouldn't be surprised though considering there are people out there with the capabilities to hack into government places like the Pentagon. With all of their security measures being able to be broken I'm pretty much handing them my information on a silver platter screaming for them to take it.
Also, I've never really hesitated on putting my card number in when I want to purchase something. Most of the time I order from Amazon or E bay, but I have purchased things from sites that I've never heard about without looking into them first. I am really opening myself up to becoming victimized. In all honesty, I'm pretty lucky I've received all of my items. Countless times I could have been ordering from a fake site without even knowing it, again just handing them my card information.
The one thing I have done right is the type of card I use. It's a prepaid debit card not linked with a bank account. I only put money on it right before I use it for something. If someone did get the info and tried to use it they most likely wouldn't get anything out of it.
It's amazing how little security we actually have online. Being behind the computer screen has always given me a sense of security. I had never really given much thought into being victimized in such a way. Of course we hear about it on the news all the time, but we never actually think it could or would happen to us.
